Aluminum pergola with adjustable louvers shading patio seating beside a tropical garden.

A motorized louvered pergola lets you tilt the roof slats for shade when the midday sun is brutal, then close them tight when a Florida storm rolls in. For Lake Mary homeowners whose patios sit empty half the year, it is one of the most practical ways to use the backyard in every season.

At Patio Style, we are a certified Azenco Outdoor dealer and installer, and our team plans pergolas around how you actually use your yard. To talk through your space, reach out to our team or call (407) 862-4600.

Why do so many Lake Mary patios go unused?

Because Central Florida weather swings between two extremes, often on the same afternoon. From late spring through early fall, the midday sun makes an open patio too hot to sit on, and the daily storms that follow send everyone back inside.

A west-facing patio in Heathrow or Timacuan can bake from lunchtime until sunset. A small covered area by the back door helps a little, but it rarely fits a dining table, a lounge set, and the people who want to use them.

Umbrellas only go so far. They cover one spot, need to be turned as the sun moves, and have to come down when the wind picks up ahead of a storm. Fixed covers keep out rain, but they also block light year round, including the cooler months when you actually want some sun.

The result is a patio full of nice furniture that mostly gets looked at through the sliding door.

How does a motorized louvered pergola work?

A louvered pergola has a roof made of angled aluminum slats that rotate. Open them for light and airflow, angle them to block the sun, or close them flat to keep the rain off.

The R-BLADE system we install from Azenco Outdoor is motorized, so you can adjust the louvers from a remote or your phone without climbing a ladder. When a storm starts building over Lake Mary in the afternoon, you can close the roof in a few seconds and keep eating.

Aluminum is also the right material for Florida. It resists rust and heat far better than wood, and it does not need sanding, staining, or sealing every couple of years.

If you prefer simpler options, Azenco also makes the K-BANA, a manual louvered pergola you tilt by hand, and the R-BREEZE, a fixed louvered design. You can learn more about our pergolas in Orlando and Central Florida, including the full Azenco lineup.

What should you ask about mounting, motors, and rain sensors?

These are the details that shape cost, timeline, and how happy you are with the result, so ask about them early.

Mounting comes first. A pergola can stand on its own posts or attach to the house, and each approach affects how the structure is anchored, what the patio surface needs, and how water drains off the roof. Ask how your existing slab or pavers will be handled.

Next, ask about controls. Find out how the motor is powered, where the wiring will run, and whether the system can be paired with a rain sensor that closes the louvers automatically when you are not home. Ask what happens if the power goes out.

Finally, ask about permits and wind. In Florida, a permanent structure like this usually needs a permit and has to meet local wind requirements. A good design-build team will plan for that from the start instead of leaving it for you to figure out.

How does a louvered pergola pair with your outdoor furniture?

The best results come from planning the pergola and the furniture together. The size of the roof should match how many people you want to seat, not just the size of the slab.

We had a customer come in asking about pergolas after hosting her son's birthday on the patio. Halfway through the party, everyone was trying to squeeze into the little square of shade next to the house.

She joked that the cake was more comfortable than she was. We talked about where the sun hit her yard through the afternoon, and how adjustable louvers could shade the whole patio instead of one corner.

That is where a showroom helps. Patio Style carries seating, dining, and shade under one roof, so you can see how a dining set, a sectional, or a pair of lounge chairs will fit under the pergola footprint. Many recent builds also add ceiling fans and LED lighting, which turns the space into a real outdoor room.

Why choose a design-build consultation over buying online?

Because a pergola is a structure, not a product you drop in a cart. It has to fit your house, your yard, your drainage, and the way the sun moves across it.

Our process starts with planning, where we measure your space and work out size and placement. Next, you choose finishes at the showroom, where you can see the colors and louver profiles in person. Then comes the installation, followed by furnishing the space if you want to complete it.

Our showroom is at 2680 West State Road 434 in Longwood, a short drive from Lake Mary. You can compare finishes, see the furniture, and talk through your plan with our team without any pressure to decide that day.

Your patio does not have to wait for the perfect afternoon. To start planning a louvered pergola for your Lake Mary backyard, contact Patio Style or call (407) 862-4600 to book a design consultation.
